One-day Programme to commemorate World Food Safety

The AFSTI Kollam Chapter in association with Chirayinkeezhu Grama Panchayat and
NetProFan Kollam, organised a One day Programme on ‘Safer Food Better Health’ to
commemorate World Food Safety Day on 14th June 2022 at Musaliar College of Engineering,
Trivandrum. The speakers of the programme were Ms. Reshmi Rajan, Food Safety Officer,
Commissionerate of Food Safety, Trivandrum and Dr. Thara C M, Head, Department of Food
Technology, Musaliar College of Engineering, Trivandrum. The programme started at 2 pm
with the welcome address by the Principal and AFSTI Kollam Chapter President Dr K K Abdul
Rasheed. Shri P. Murali, President, Chirayinkeezhu Grama Panchayat officially inaugurated
the programme.
The number of participants for the programme was around 105 including students, faculties of
Musaliar College of Engineering and the public. Ms. Reshmi Rajan, FSO gave a detailed
presentation on the food safety practices which has to be followed in every segment of life. She
also highlighted the importance of food safety in home practices and the measures through
which food poisoning and food intoxication can be prevented. Dr Thara presented the session
on improving the diet for a healthy living. The significance of balanced diet and how it can be
attained was explained in the session. The feedback of the two sessions revealed that it was
very informative and relevant in the current scenario.
The session concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms Shema Hanna Mathew, Assistant
Professor, AFSTI member, Dept of Food Technology, Musaliar College of Engineering,
Trivandrum.
